Invisalign is a great option for a patient that needs braces to correct crowding or TMJ disorder. Although, it does have some limitations that patients should be aware of. The most common way to gain space to correct crowding is by "stripping" enamel between teeth with a drill. The loss of tooth structure creates space to move teeth together. In the right hands, the results will end up looking excellent. However Invisalign does not move teeth as easily as traditional braces for a majority of dentists, and can end up in too much stripping by the doctor to get their desired result. This case is an example of how the orthodontist removed too much enamel towards the biting end of the patient's two front teeth. When the teeth were moved into their final position, the outcome is awful and needs to be corrected with cosmetic dentistry.
