Snoring is a Symptom
While it is the source of many jokes, snoring is no laughing matter. It usually indicates that the airway conditions are similar to Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) and can easily develop into it in the future. The loud noise is the result of a collapse of your airway and your body's struggle to bring oxygen in and out of your lungs. A normal and open airway doesn't restrict airflow and snoring does not occur. The decreased airflow not only annoys your sleeping partner, but lowers your body oxygen level as well. Over time, the lack of oxygen puts a lot of stress on your body which leads to other systemic conditions such as heart attacks or high blood pressure. If you snore, don't treat it lightly and as a joke among your family or friends. It is an important indicator that something more serious is happening to your body.
